A bit about me ——
I’m Qi Yun, a fashion designer based in New York City. I hold both a Bachelor’s in Special Occasion Design and a Master of Fine Arts in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. My work blends art, culture, and craftsmanship, specializing in special occasion wear, ready-to-wear, and avant-garde design, with a particular love for bustiers and corsetry.
I’ve designed for high-end brands, creating runway and red carpet looks, but beyond aesthetics, I’m fascinated by the deeper questions in fashion—how clothing shapes identity, how the industry navigates issues like lookism, objectification, and inclusivity, and how we can push for a more diverse, thoughtful, and ethical fashion landscape.
Beyond designing, I speak about Fashion & AI at the Fashion Institute of Technology, exploring how technology is reshaping creativity, craftsmanship, and the future of design. I’m passionate about integrating Silicon Valley’s entrepreneurial spirit and technology into fashion, finding ways to use innovation as a tool to make the industry more efficient, imaginative, and boundary-breaking—both creatively and technically (although technically mainly). I also mentor emerging designers, helping them build their portfolios and creative voices.
When I’m not designing —
I’m into Wittgenstein’s take on language and reality; I enjoy listening to a good debate; I have a deep curiosity about cosmology; I love salmon and octopus. In the gaming world, I main Switch Axe in Monster Hunter; I adore cute dress-up games, which is actually how I first fell in love with fashion.
To me, fashion isn’t just about making clothes—it’s about telling stories, challenging norms, and creating dreams. It exists because people crave it. And at the end of the day, the world itself is just a dream—
Let’s dream together.
